The quilts from POP will be displayed and blessed Sunday, October 7th. Jean would like help after worship September 30th to bring the quilts into the sanctuary and help display them. Then on the 7th after worship it would be good if people could fold up the quilts and pack them in boxes waiting in the narthex. The quilts, health kits and school kits will be delivered to Seville, Ohio (thank you Fritz and Karen Poese!) then go on to New Windsor. Thanks to all the quilters and all who donate to the kits.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE

For ten years the Bollinger’s of POP planned special events on or near that special day, including the Rise Against Hunger event last year. This year we are asking that each of you promote the International Day of Peace in your own way. We have posters for you to take to your workplace, your doctor’s office, or any place where they can be displayed. We also have bulletin inserts that you can give to friends. The International Day of Peace will be celebrated all over the world. Let Peace begin with each of us in our homes, schools, places of work, clubs, community, and our world. Peace on Earth Begins With Me.

New Worship Times

For the sake of joy and unity, Faith Lutheran Parish will have a new worship schedule on Sunday, April 8, 2018. POP together in one Sunday worship service at 9:00 a.m. and St John will worship at 10:45 a.m.

If worship time is critical for you, it’s okay if you choose to worship on the other side of the lake: The worship services at SJ and POP will be the same; when you use an offering envelope your tithe will go back to your congregation (or you can choose to mail your offering in or use your pay billing program to send your tithe to church).

This step is also the big learning curve. Music is important to all of us. We’ll be uniting our worship styles and we’ll all be learning new songs and hymns. Especially in the beginning, the worship committee will take great care in selecting the most sing-able and beautiful songs and there will be song leaders sitting among you to help you catch the music.

This step is also the step with the most potential for good surprises. The councils anticipate that we’ll discover new and special opportunities over the summer, e.g. committees might have Sunday meetings, new adult and children education offerings could develop, our choirs might grow or special music offerings may spring up, friendships will be renewed and new friendships made. Pray for the parents who dressing and feeding their children on Sunday morning, so that we can all be blessed by the presence and the wisdom of children in worship. Take this opportunity to try a different leadership role at worship. Invent a theme for fellowship time. Invite a friend to join you for lunch after worship. The worship committee asked and I agreed to be ready to greet all the folks at POP 8:30 a.m. So come early and have coffee with me.

Look for God in the chaos you are feeling. Look for God in the new faces you see at worship. Look for God in the new songs you sing and surely you find God. Don’t let anyone take this opportunity for joy and unity from you. And continue to talk to your council as we discover and discern where God is leading us.

Love, Pastor Denise
