First Sunday in Lent

Each year on the first Sunday in Lent we hear about Jesus’ temptation in the wilderness, and we pray that we may be able to resist the temptations that come to us here and now. Come to worship, to receive the Spirit’s strength to live in light of your baptism.

Wear a Flannel Shirt and Eat Soup Sunday
Prince of Peace

The ground hog said, “Early Spring!” So to officially end winter, we will wear flannel shirts on March 1st! Cooks – bring a pot of soup to share!

Night at the Scrappers

LOAF is planning a night at the Scrappers. The date is Friday, July 17th.The evening involves a picnic, the game, and fireworks. The picnic is provided by the Scrappers and consists of hamburgers, hotdogs, potato salad, baked beans, cookies, water, and soft drinks. The picnic is served 45 minutes prior to game time. The cost is $21 per person. (The cost is the same for children.) It is hoped that more people will become aware of LOAF through this event. It will also highlight the Cortland/Bazetta area as the community is also invited to attend. You are encouraged to come along with friends, neighbors, etc. A number estimate is needed by March 1st so sign up on the clipboard in the sanctuary or contact Carole Wiley ASAP. PLAY BALL!

Art Class at SJ – TIME CHANGE
Friday, March 6

Watercolor classes will be offered at SJ from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m. The 5-week session is $55 plus the cost of your own supplies. Please contact Sandy Gibson or Donna Beyerle if you are interested

Mid-week Lenten Services

We are invited to attend the St. Paul Lutheran Church mid-week Lenten services on THURSDAY nights, starting Thursday, March 5. Beginning with a covered dish dinner at 6:00 p.m. followed by worship at 7:00 p.m.

CHOW Quiz Night at St. Robert’s
Saturday, March 21

It’s time to organize your team of 5-8 members for CHOW’s Just for Fun Quiz Night. Put your heads together as a team to answer trivia questions in the following categories: entertainment, mathematics, sports, religion, science, history, current events, literature, and pop culture. If you don’t have 5-8 people to make a team, come anyway and teams will be formed so all can play. Contribution is $10.00 per person and includes soups, veggies, snacks, soft drinks, coffee and fun which will be served at 6:30 p.m. The game will begin at 7:00 p.m..

Proceeds will be used to continue CHOW’s work delivering clothing, household goods, food and school supplies to Grahn School Community Center in Grahn, KY. Plan to join us for a fun night of trivia with food, fellowship and laughs. For more information, email chowohio@gmail.com.

Outreach Opportunities at POP
Lenten Drive to Attack Hunger -We need your generosity again this year to support the annual Lenten Drive to attack World Hunger! Containers will be available, or you can just add your donation to your regular offering. Money will to to Lutheran World Relief!
LWR SCHOOL BAGS-are available NOW to make for next fall. We already have quite a few finished. If you care to help just take the supplies off of the table in the fellowship hall.
VA Hospital Patients- We will be collecting items for the VA Hospital patients. Donations of hygiene products, magazines, packaged cookies and snacks, nail files, spa items, sewing kits, denture items, socks, non-skid slippers, DVDs and phone cards would be greatly appreciated!

Outreach Opportunities at SJ
IN-KIND OFFERING for March will be non-perishable foods for the community Easter food baskets.
March Noisy Offering– Sparkle gift certificates for the Easter food baskets
M&M (Mission & Ministry) M&M tubes will be handed out at SJ to the worshippers the first Sunday in Lent How to get started:
Enjoy your chocolatey treat.
Fill the container with any quarters you find.
Ask people you know to donate a quarter.
Bring the container back before or on Easter Sunday.
The money raised will be sent to Church World Service to provide blankets to hose in need. Add one quarter each day throughout the 40 days of Lent (excluding Sundays) and you will fill the M&M container and you will bless someone with a blanket.
